Submissions

What We Publish:

In accordance with our mission, we are particularly interested in publishing original works of unique, socially-conscious literary art constructed by emerging artists. We deal primarily with text submissions, but we also encourage works that are interdisciplinary, engaging, challenging, and not constrained by rigid form requirements. Submissions are also open to writers and artists who work in genres like historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, and creative non-fiction. Read below for more information about our submission process.

Monthly Prompt

Our theme for next month is Spring Goddess. As winter melts into the magic of spring, inspiration and creativity abound. For the next issue, we would love to receive all of your work focused on the enchantments of spring. Artists, send us your #Faebruary art! Writers, have you been working on any fantastical short stories? We want it!

For the March 2020 issue, contributors are encouraged to submit pieces related to this prompt, but as always we will also accept unrelated submissions. Please submit no later than Monday, March 2.

Submission Guidelines

We will consider only original works. Work previously published in any form cannot be considered. All text submissions should be written primarily in English. We accept Word document files, PDF files, Text (.txt) files, and Rich Text Format (.rtf) files for text submissions. Visual, multimedia, and graphic submissions can be sent in JPEG, PDF, TIFF, PNG, or Word document files.

Please see the categories below for more specific formatting guidelines.

Short Stories

Our recommended length for short stories is between 10 and 20 pages, but we will consider submissions of quality that are slightly outside this range. For text submissions intended to be standard in format, the text should be double spaced, written in an 11- or 12-point serif font, and formatted with standard margins. (Texts with intentionally stylized typography need not necessarily conform to these guidelines.)

Poetry

We accept all forms of poetry, including visual poetry. We have no per-poem length requirement, but you may submit up to four (4) poems of up to ten (10) pages total per submission. For text submissions intended to be standard in format, the text should be 11- or 12-point serif font, and formatted with standard margins. (Texts with intentionally stylized typography or other visual elements need not necessarily conform to these guidelines.)

Art/Photography

For visual art, we ask that you submit no more than three (3) individual pieces per submission. If you are submitting a photo essay or other form of visual story, our recommended maximum length is five (5) pages, but we will consider submissions of quality that are slightly outside this maximum. We have no specific requirements for art style or content, but we ask that all adult content be presented respectfully and in a manner consistent with the journal’s mission and core values.

Graphic Short Stories

Our suggested maximum length for graphic short stories is 20 pages, but we will consider submissions of quality that are slightly outside this maximum. We have no specific requirements for art style or content, but we ask that all adult content be presented respectfully and in a manner consistent with the journal’s mission and core values.

My work doesn’t quite fit these categories. Can I still submit?

Absolutely! At Acclamation Point our primary focus is on presenting stories that matter and are consistent with our vision. If you are working on a project that you think would be a good addition to the journal but does not fit neatly into just one (or any) of the above categories but would be suitable for our journal format, please get in touch with us. When submitting, please write “Other” for the category in the subject line.

How To Submit:

Please send all submissions to acclamationpointjournal@gmail.com with the subject line formatted as follows: “Submission: TITLE OF YOUR PIECE/Category.”
